How glitch text works

Glitch, or “zalgo”, text adds Unicode combining marks, the same kind used for accents like é, but stacks many of them on every letter so they spill above and below the line. The letters underneath don’t change, so the text is still there if you strip the marks.

Be considerate

Heavy glitch text can cover nearby lines and is unreadable for screen readers. Some apps trim it or count every mark toward character limits. Use Light for names and save Chaos for the occasional meme.

Glitch Text Generator: FAQ

Why is it called zalgo?

The name comes from an early internet horror meme in which a creature called Zalgo corrupted comics, and the distorted text style became linked to it.

Why does my glitch text get cut off?

Every stacked mark counts as a character, so long glitch text can hit a character limit. Use a lighter level or shorter text.
