Pick a style that stays readable
Script and Old English lettering are classic tattoo looks, but thin strokes and tight curves can blur as a tattoo ages, especially when the letters are small. Ask your artist how small each style can go on the spot you have in mind.
A preview, not a stencil
These styles are Unicode characters, so the exact shapes depend on the font of your phone or app, and a few letters come from other Unicode blocks and look slightly different. Use them to try out wording and layout; your artist will draw the lettering or set it in a real tattoo typeface.
Check the spelling, twice
Paste the text into a plain notes app and read it letter by letter before your appointment. For a script you donโt read, like Norse runes, ogham or hieroglyphs, check every character against a chart, and for words in another language ask someone who speaks it.
